A Summer Bucket List - Free Things to Do!

The summer solstice is upon us and it’s time to gear up for a sunny summer in South Glos and Bristol!

Here is a short-list of some fun free events, festivals and activities that will be a great way to fill your summer!


Festival of Nature 17th & 18th of June

Head down to Millennium Square and Anchor Square on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th June to celebrate 20 years of Festival of Nature! Two huge outdoor days of free nature activities, stalls and screenings, food and drink, and special guest talks at the harbourside.

Banksy Walking tour – all year round

The world-famous Banksy was born and bred in Bristol and was once just another kid on the streets of Bristol with a can of spray paint in his hands. As a result, some of his earliest work is hidden around the city, and spotting it is an absolute must for fans of his work.

We've listed some of Banksy's most famous Bristol works, which together make for a great self-guided walking tour of the city.

Bristol Pride – Festivities from 24th of June – 9th July

Bristol Pride is a unique and important event that celebrates the LGBT+ community offering the chance to connect people. As well as showcasing our wonderfully diverse community, Pride is about overcoming prejudice, hatred, reducing isolation, and showing members of the LGBT+ community that they are not alone. The countdown to Pride 2023 has begun, the festival runs from 24 June – 9 July with a huge concert on the 8th of July starring Natalie Imbruglia.

Unicornfest – July to September

Unicorn fest is part of the 650th anniversary celebrations for Bristol. Follow the magical trail around Bristol landmarks and snap some selfies with the Unicorns who are custom painted by local artists.

Bristol Harbour Festival - July 14th – 16th

The beloved annual Bristol Harbour festival is back for 2023! The annual dance, music and arts extravaganza will be returning to Bristol's Harbourside with a ton of family activities, circus performers, delicious food stalls, visiting vessels and some mega live music across all the stages on Bristol's waterfront.

Balloon fiesta –  10th – 13th of August

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is Europe's largest annual meeting of hot air balloons, attracting over 130 hot air balloons from across the globe. Head down to the festival for live music, amazing food stalls, and to see the balloons in all their glory. Keep your eyes peeled for the morning and evening ascents!
