Employability Skills Drop-Ins

I joined the team having only worked with adult careers education information advice and guidance (CEIAG) so when I was offered the opportunity to work in schools with Years 10 through to 11, I was really excited about the prospect.

We not only work with young people who have left school we are actively providing targeted CEIAG in schools from Y10 to Y11.

Remembering my own school experience where, what careers advice there was, consisted of me being discouraged when advised that my idea at the time was not realistic and I should choose something else.  Or being pigeonholed into jobs I can’t do and jobs I should do, whether I was interested in them or not, I was determined to offer a better experience for the young people I work with today.

We are currently running these 1:1 tailored sessions and group workshops as part of a community drop-in at the Skills Hub in Kings-chase shopping centre Kingswood.

The support will be exploring different employability skills including CV writing, interview techniques, presentation skills, and building up resilience, confidence and motivation.  We can also look at how to identify the right career path based on the individual skills of the student, their interests and personality.

The drop-ins are happening every Wednesday throughout the summer holidays from 10-4 at the Skills Hub-Kings-Chase Shopping Centre Kingswood.
